1. Cross-World Experts Summer Internship 2010

Here’s your opportunity to learn about international and environmental education and get hands on experience in the field. This highly competitive internship program is open to graduating high school seniors, undergraduates and graduate students. We will be accepting 2 interns for this program. Please make sure your application in not later than November 10, 2010. Everything you need to know is below. Purpose:

This internship will provide outstanding high school graduates, undergraduates and graduate students with the opportunity to gain firsthand work experience in international exchange and environmental training.

 

Period:

June 1 – July 4 OR June 29 – July 24 :

 

Remuneration and Academic Credit:

Housing provided; stipend for food also provided. Intern is responsible for own travel expenses from home country to Hirado (we can help with logistics)

We will also provide whatever documentation is needed to receive academic credit for this experience. Upon successful completion of the internship the student will be provided with assistance in incorporating the internship into their resume and letters of recommendation as appropriate.

Qualifications:

Student should possess an outstanding academic record and have demonstrated leadership in academic, social, or volunteer organizations. Experience working with international or highly diverse populations is expected of all successful candidates, as is experience (and comfort) with public speaking and peer leadership. Proactive participation in an international travel experience, especially in Japan, is highly desired. Familiarity with Japanese culture, cuisine, and language would highly benefit any candidate, but is not required.

Duties:

Interns will be expected to be positive and proactive members of our Nagasaki Islands School Team. They will work under the direction of the Program Director and be assigned a mentor among the team members. Specific duties will include:

 

  • Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor during all program-related activities
  • Attend all staff meetings and be familiar with all schedules and group-related activities;
  • In coordination with program leader, assist in the leadership of weekly group activities, including logistics, group member interaction and monitoring, and follow-up activities;
  • Act as a member of the public relations team, write press releases, compile feedback surveys results, assemble PowerPoint presentations, provide copy for organization website and update Facebook or other group pages;
  • Participate and assist in all staff house activities, including grocery shopping, house cleaning, meal preparation; and
  • Interns should expect to participate in on the ground program activities for 4-5 days per week in addition to 1 day of office work/staff meetings per week.

Applicants will be required to complete a written application, submit a resume, two letters of recommendation from teachers, professors, or previous employers, and pass a telephone or in-person interview. Successful applicants will be expected to have a passport valid until at least February 2011, and work in close coordination with the Program Director when making all travel arrangements, and complete a medical form.
